Poll Shows Two-Thirds of Americans Would Forfeit a Month’s Pay to Not Deal With Bugs

bugs, bug problem, pests, remove pests

Do you despise bugs enough to give up a month’s pay to not deal with them? Apparently, two in three Americans would, according to a survey conducted by OnePoll.

Scientists are not certain where or when our negative feelings for bugs originated. Science Direct believes the cause is ongoing urbanization because people display stronger negative feelings for bugs when they are found indoors. These negative feelings are so strong that nearly seven in 10 Americans can’t sleep when they know a bug is in their room, according to the same OnePoll survey.

The Makings of a Horror Movie

Our fear of insects is so strong that it has been the theme of countless horror movies from Eight Legged Freaks to The Swarm. But, the reality is that they outnumber us on Earth. There are more than 200 million insects for each human being on the planet.

Insects have crawled and flown the Earth way before man, so they are not going away. We have to find a way to share our planet in separate spaces.

Keeping Pests Out of Our Homes

There are good homeowner practices that make our living and working spaces less attractive to pests such as termites, cockroaches, spiders, bees, ants, and mosquitos. These practices are also effective on rats and mice too:

  • Keep areas of our home where food preparation takes place free of crumbs and dirty dishes in the sink.
  • Store food in air-tight sealed plastic containers.
  • Repair all indoor leaks in kitchens and bathrooms as well as outdoor leaks from hoses.
  • Remove clutter from your attic, basement, and garage.
  • Seal all gaps and cracks around doors, windows, and your foundation.
  • Store firewood at least 20 feet away from your house.
  • Keep trees and bushes trimmed and away from your roof.
