Mosquitoes

Counter Infestations Without Hurting Your Health

You already know mosquito bites can be irritating, but mosquitoes can also spread mosquito borne disease. Different species of mosquitoes, including Aedes albopictus, can transmit pathogens such as West Nile virus after an infected mosquito takes a blood meal. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, mosquitoes are found throughout the United States, making disease control and prevention an important part of efforts to control mosquitoes.

The mosquito life cycle begins when females lay eggs in standing water, soft, moist soil, tree holes or other small bodies of water. Mosquito larvae then develop rapidly, and in favorable conditions, mosquitoes can go from egg to adult in just 10–14 days. Because mosquitoes can reproduce in a large number in surprisingly small water sources, the American Mosquito Control Association recommends reducing breeding areas around homes and using mosquito repellent to help prevent mosquito bites.

As if that’s not inconvenient enough, studies suggest variables such as alcohol consumption, pregnancy and even carbon dioxide output can affect how attractive a person is to mosquitoes. Some research has also explored whether a full moon may influence mosquito activity, though factors such as species, location and environmental conditions can affect the results.

The best and fastest way to get rid of mosquitoes is to call a pro. It will save you time and money.

With ECOLA, you can explore low-toxicity, alternative methods that won’t hurt children, pets or the environment.
